Ben Johnson, Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen were all on target as West Ham inflicted a fourth consecutive league defeat on Villa. The Hammers have now moved fourth on the log, going level on terms with champions Manchester city, who they trail by goal difference.

First-half goals by Ben Johnson and a captains goal for Declan Rice sent West Ham ahead before Villa’s talisman Ollie Watkins put them back on level before the interval.

AstonVilla were reduced to 10 men after defender Ezri Konsa received his matching orders after a VAR review for a last-man challenge on Jarrod Bowen.

In the second interval Villa were denied a crucial equalizer when Watkins effort was pushed to the bar by Fabianski. The Hammers then ruthlessly used their man advantage to pile pressure on Villa with goals from Pablo Fornals and Bowen sealing a handsome win for the London outfit.

West Ham now sit fourth on Premier League table but the victory moves them level on points with reigning champions Manchester City who they only trail to by goal difference, while a fourth consecutive league defeat leaves Aston Villa languishing in 15th place.
