POULTRY FARMING: AN INCOME GENERATING SOURCE FOR YOUTHS
Are you an urban dweller looking to add some chickens to your backyard flock? Here are a few tips on how to care for your chickens and what breed might be best for you.

Chickens are relatively easy to care for. They need a place to roost and lay their eggs, access to food and water, and some space to move around. One of the significant decisions you’ll need to make is whether to get standard or improved poultry.

Standard poultry is the chickens you’re likely to see in most backyards. They are good layers of eggs and relatively disease-resistant. However, they don’t grow as large as some other chicken breeds and can be more susceptible to predators.
Improved poultry are bred to be larger and have more meat on their bones. They are also typically more disease-resistant and productive when it comes to laying eggs. However, they can be more expensive than standard poultry and may not be well-suited to smaller backyard flocks.

When choosing a chicken breed, consider what you’re looking for in a bird. If you want a chicken mainly for egg production, go with a standard bird. If you’re looking for a bird that provides more meat, go with an improved poultry breed.
No matter what breed you choose, be sure to provide your chickens with a comfortable place to live, access to food and water, and some space to move around. With proper care, your chickens will provide you with years of enjoyment.
