Health experts in Kisii County are warning that a lack of contraceptives could lead to more teenage pregnancies and HIV infections.

They lamented the slow delivery of the goods and called it a problem that needed to be addressed right away.

“A scaled down delivery also means low use something that is causing concern among the health players,” Family Planning Services head Leah Bwari said.

Low donor financing was one of the contributing factors, according to Bwari, to the county's lack of access to contraception.

She claimed that the ongoing scarcity of the goods will certainly undo whatever progress that had been made in reducing teen pregnancies in the region.

According to Bwari, players in the industry have worked cooperatively to drastically lower pregnancy rates from the initial 38.8% to 22%.

The greatest approach for young people to protect themselves from the negative effects of promiscuous sex, she continued, is to abstain from sexual activity.
