The church was built in 1952 and still stands still. It houses remains of 676 Italian soldiers.

The Italian War Memorial Church houses remains of Italian soldiers captured by the British Army during World War II. It is five kilometers from Nyeri town. The church which has a hidden history, is the final rest for 676 Italian soldiers.Beside it, there is a structure with the remains of African soldiers who due to their faith couldn't be burried inside the church, most of them are somalis.

The building was constructed in 1952 and stands still decades later. The church attracts many Italian tourists who pay homage to their fallen Italian prisoners.

On the walls of the church, are small signs indicating the name of each soldier and the battalion they served in together with the place they died.

The tomb of Amadeo di Savoia Duca did Aosta, who was the senior Italian arrmy officer in East Africa, is positioned near the altar in the church. His statue and military gear lies are fixed atop of the grave.
