Did you know that Kenya has a car-free island?
Found out about an island in Kenya that does not allow the use of vehicles. An island that some Kenyans know about while others do not.
If you are a tourist and you happen to visit Kenya, then you ought to know about an island in Kenya known as Lamu. The town is located 150 miles north from the city of Mombasa and is said to date back to the 12th century inhabited by the Swahili community of Kenya.
The island rings a bell in the mind of many Kenyans and you will be surprised to learn that it is among the few islands in the world that do not have cars.
As a matter of fact, cars are banned from use by the general public. So people have to use boats and donkeys to move around.
Therefore, if it happens that you are looking forward to a car-free holiday or just some time off the busy traffic streets of Nairobi and Mombasa or even New-york and Beijing, going to Lamu might just be the best thing for you.
