KEBS suspends 10 cooking oil brands over quality concerns

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has on Friday suspended ten cooking oil brands which have failed to fulfil the acceptance health standards.

According to KEBS, the suspension is temporary and is not a ban, and when the brands will comply, the suspension will be lifted.

“Kindly not that this is not a ban on the brands but a temporary suspension to allow the manufacturers of the non-compliant brands to initiate and put in place effective corrective action under KEGS supervision to ensure that the non-compliant brands comply with the requirements of the respective Kenya Standards and Standards Act CAP 496, Laws of Kenya before being allowed back into the market,” read part of the letter.

KEBS added that the purpose of the suspension was to bring the publicn into attention that the ten brands failed to comply with KEBS standards thus the recalling of the b rands off from the supply chain market.

The ten brands include Bahari Fry, Fresh Fri, Fresh Fri with Garlic Oil, Fry Mate, Gold n Pure Olive Oil, Postman, Rina, Salit, Tilly and Top Fry.

KEBS asked RETRACK to ensure that the products are taken off the shelves in all outlets until compliance has been achieved.
