With less than a year to next year's general elections, local leaders from Kisii county led by Nyaribari-Masaba Member of Parliament Ezekiel Machogu have announced their interest for the county's gubernatorial seat.
According to the Member of Parliament, the leaders are expected to create a difference from that which the present governor has done.James Ongwae has been the county's governor for two consecutive terms and he is set to exit office next year.
Other leaders who have come forth to declare their interest include the current senator of Kisii county,Professor Sam Ongeri,Rachel Otundu and Charles Matoke.Kisii county still remains an ODM stronghold with both the current governor and senator eminating from the party. However, various reports state that Rachel Otundu will be vying for the seat through a UDA ticket.

The four leaders also come from the same region in Kisii county which is the entire Nyaribari.According to reports, this would be an issue to them because all the constituencies in Nyaribari will most likely split votes among the leaders of their interest. This will in-turn make it hard for them to compete with other contestants from other constituencies in other regions of Kisii county.
Nonetheless, all eyes are still set on next year's general elections with many Kenyans remaining hopeful that the elections would be peaceful.
