RIGATHI GACHAGUA RELEASED ON A 12 MILLION CASH BAIL

Mathira member of parliament Rigathi Gachagua was yesterday freed from the Milimani Law courts after paying a 12 million cash bail for denying corruption charges worth 7.4 billion.

Milimani anti-corruption judge Lawrence Mugambi ordered the MP to deposit a 12 million cash bail or a 25 million, on strict ordered that he deposits his passport with the court and not to contact or interfere with the witness of his case.” The MP to be detained at the court precincts from his home until 5pm and if he will not have posted the bail, he will be remanded at the Industrial Area remanded prison,” he said.

After spending three nights in industrial area police cells following his arrest on Friday at his Nyeri home by the DCI officials, Yesterday he arrived at Milimani Law Courts at 8.45 am under tight police security where he was held till 11 Am. At 11.25 Am, he was presented in court where several charges against him were read including; money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime, conflict of interest, and acquisition of public property.

In this case Gachagua is charged alongside nine others who didn’t appear before the court. While addressing the journalists outside the court Kimani Ichungwa said the case against Gachagua is politically instigated and that the fight against corruption will never succeed because of the same.
