SEVERE DROUGHT TAKES A HEAVY TOLL ON GARISSA RESIDENTS
At least 168,000 people in Garissa county are facing starvation, acording to a report by the National Drought Management Authority.
The horrific picture of cattle rotting beneath the scorching sun is the result of a prolonged drought that as reached a crisis level as humans and animals die of Hunger every 24 hours.
For the past 3 months, much of Kenya's northern part has barely received any rainfall, which is reported to be the lowest in decades.
Hundreds of cattle and tens of people have succumbed as a result of the disaster since it kicked in a few months ago.
The crisis has been compounded by covid-19 and previous poor rains in the region with experts predicting the situation to worsen by the end of the year, since October to December rains are expected to be below normal levels.

Most parts of the affected region I've already had to deal with desert locust inventions, flash floods,and tribal conflicts driven by diminishing resources.
It is time the country comes up with medium and long-term interventions to mitigate climate crisis and break the vicious cycle of food insecurity in the Region.
