A family in Kiogoro gets their land back from land grabbers after a court decision
George Mokamba's family from Kiogoro, who are orphans, received justice yesterday after the Kisii Law Courts ruled in their favor, recovering their unlawfully lost land.
Under strong security from Kiogoro police officers, a house that had been built by the buyer on that land was destroyed. The family expressed gratitude to the Kisii Law Courts for granting them justice and urged those who purchase land to follow the proper procedures.
"You can see what is going on here. I have suffered for a long time, but now God has done His will. We were left orphans when our mother died in 1996 and our father in 2004.
People came here, grabbed our land, and started building houses. We were very young at that time and had nothing to do. We have waited until now to receive the justice we deserve," George said.
George went on to explain that they once sought assistance from the area chief, who called the people who had grabbed their land, but no solution was found.
The chief urged them to pursue further action. According to George, many people have come claiming that the land belongs to them.
