Hon. John matiangi urges Nyamira residents to keep planting trees as directed by the president
In a remarkable demonstration of environmental stewardship and community spirit, the people of Nyamira County gathered in large numbers to participate in a large-scale tree planting event in Keroka town.
This significant event, aimed at enhancing the region’s green cover and combating environmental degradation, was led by the Honourable John Matiang'i, the Cabinet Secretary for the Environment from Nyamira County.
The event, held on a bright and hopeful morning, saw the participation of hundreds of residents, including local leaders, students, environmental activists, and ordinary citizens, all united by a common goal: to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to address the pressing issues of deforestation and climate change, which have far-reaching impacts on local and global ecosystems.
Honourable John Matiang'i, a passionate advocate for environmental conservation, emphasized the critical importance of such initiatives. In his address to the gathered crowd, he highlighted the numerous benefits of tree planting, from reducing carbon dioxide levels and improving air quality to providing habitats for wildlife and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the community’s enthusiastic participation and reiterated his commitment to leading similar efforts across various parts of the county.
“This is just the beginning,” Honourable Matiang'i declared. “Our goal is to plant thousands of trees not only in Keroka but throughout Nyamira County. We must all take responsibility for our environment and work together to ensure a greener, healthier future for our children and generations to come.”
The tree planting event in Keroka is part of a larger environmental conservation campaign spearheaded by Honourable Matiang'i. The campaign aims to mobilize communities, schools, and organizations to engage in tree planting and other sustainable practices.
It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the role every individual can play in protecting and nurturing the natural world.
Participants in the event were provided with saplings of various indigenous tree species, along with guidance on proper planting techniques to ensure high survival rates.
Volunteers and environmental experts were on hand to assist and educate participants about the long-term care and maintenance of the newly planted trees.
