Kenyans Want Anthony Kibagendi Appointed as Minority leader

Following the nomination of Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who has been occupying the position of the minority leader to the Cabinet, ODM MPs have been scrambling for that slot.

Kitutu Chache south MP Antoney Kibagendi has been the talk of town after many Kenyans from Nyanza region and nationwide at large endorse him to occupy the slot.

In his tenure as an MP, the lawmaker has been actively participating in national legislation and representing the interests of his constituents in the Kenyan Parliament.

In the recent controversial finance bill 2024/2025, the ODM MP was in the frontline in advocating for its withdrawal in its entirety as it seemed to affect the life of a commoner adversely.

On May the legislator had said that overtaxing Kenyans signaled a turn in the wrong direction for the Kenya Kwanza administration and focused on that path of putting Kenyans’ interests first.

"I did not go to Parliament to betray the poor. I am going to fight until all forms punitive taxation embedded in the bill are removed," Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi said.

Kibagendi is recognized for his role in local governance and advocacy on issues affecting his constituency, focusing on areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

Kisii County ODM Youth League yesterday rendered the MP equal for the task hence proposing that he should be considered as the Minority Leader in the National Assembly in the 13th parliament.

“I am an ODM elected legislator, I have been consistent in my defence of the party, I have courageously pushed the agenda of our AZIMIO coalition both in the house and out here in the public and I believe I can offer the much needed leadership as a Minority leader.” Wrote the lawmaker on his social media avenue.

Mr. Kibagendi has promised to be up on his tasks if the position gets channeled on his way adding that this opportunity will embrace regional balance.

“We shall relentlessly pursue this position so that we can have our generation and the generations that follow- that are the backbone of our party, feel better represented, this will also ensure the regional balance is adhered to within the leadership of the party ODM and The Azimio Coalition.

Long live The Orange Democratic Movement” read part of the post.

“Raila Odinga should give the slot to the Gusii people. Antoney Kibagendi has stood with the party (ODM) and with the party chair throughout his journey and this is the time to reward him for his loyalty. It will be a win for all Kenyans.” Said one of the ODM members during a press briefing.

The MP has also been backed up fully by netizens across various social media platforms.

“Minority leader it’s. Across the political entity, you have stood to your trust, believe on good governance and priorities towards a better Kenya..It’s with this urge, we demand for your appointment” said one of the Facebook users, Brian Mochama Herrera.

Joseph Apiri also echoed the endorsement.

“I said it here the other day. You have been loyal to the party and its leader for long enough. You strongly defend the party both in and out of the National Assembly. You have proved beyond reasonable doubts that you are equal to the task. We endorse you for the house leadership.”

The minority leaders is expected to be appointed the party leader in the next couple of days.
