Raila Odinga has agreed to dialogue with Ruto’s government after Gen Z protests

Azimio party leader Raila Odinga says they have agreed to dialogue with President William Ruto’s government following weeks of Gen Z-driven protests.

The former prime minister was speaking during the signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill into law at the KICC on Tuesday.

“I am happy to confirm that we have had consultations and have agreed that a dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis that we are facing in the country” said the Azimio leader.

The Azimio principal also voiced that the dialogue forum will be represented by all people respective of the religious affiliations.

“This forum will work and help us move forward. We want representatives from religious groups, the civil society, the youth and workers. We want them to be properly heard.” He uttered.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo MUsyoka who was also among the members presented during the meeting, uttered that he doesn’t advocate for the Gen Z’s revolution.

“There is no way we can wish away the Gen Z revolution…if we’re not careful all of us will be thrown out by Gen Z” noted Mr. Kalonzo.

The Azimio party co-principal also asked president Ruto to order inspector general Japhet Koome to remove the police officers from the streets or go home.

“If we are not careful, all of us will be thrown out by Gen Z. Can the President order the Inspector to either retire or remove the police from the streets?” added Kalonzo.

President William Ruto on the other end defended himself on how he listen to Kenyan and dropped the controversial finance bill 2024.

“Many voices expressed disapproval of these proposals leading me to drop the bill and terminate the process. There is general consensus that the country requires to confront and address long-standing priority nation issues including national debt, public expenditure and anti-corruption measures.”

The president also mentioned the reason why he established a committee to help in auditing the country’ debt.

“We have an opportunity to come together and figure out the future of our country and that is the reason why I set up a committee to work and audit our debt”

The deputy president also backed Raila Odinga’s call for a dialogue.

“Now that the President has agreed to have a discussion with our young people, I call upon the people of Kenya to give dialogue a chance”

However, most Gen Z say neither Ruto nor Raila speaks for them and they will not be a part of the dialogue
