Senators and MPs slam SRC over pay hikes for state officers

Following the government announcing the increase of salaries to the MPs and other state officials. This was done despite the ongoing protests which were caused by the high cost of living and the inconsiderate finance bill which had been proposed.

Some of these leaders find the increment of salaries being unfair and consider the government as ignorant and causing anger and desperation to Kenyans.

“It’s a betrayal to Kenyans for salaries and other benefits of state officers at this point in time when there’s agitation for the same to be reduced. We can’t always take Kenyans for fools. Reduce, increase. That’s what Kenyans are demanding!!!” Millicent Omanga wrote on X despite her being on the Kenya Kwanza side.

Edwin Sifuna who was among the Azimio senators who were on the “NO” group of rejecting the finance bill and was defending Kenyans from police brutality has also talked on the unfair salary increment. “MPs’ pay rise amid chaos” is a bit outrage @citizentvkenya.

Let’s be clear on what we are talking about here. The SRC is proposing to add me 14k on my salary. I didn’t ask for it. I don’t need it. It’s still money, in a country where many have no income, but for perspective.

I pay close to 300k in income tax every month.”Edwin Sifuna wrote on X. He clearly is not interested in the salary increment and does not want to disappoint Kenyans who elected him to be on that seat. He added, “I will not fight for 14k extra when the whole country is saying we need to lessen taxpayer burden. I don’t want this 14k. Ikae.”

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who is always fighting for Kenyans and insists on lowering on the cost of living of Kenyans was also angered by the increasing of salaries.

“MPs and other state officials should not be added even a coin. It’s sad to increase salaries while Kenyans have no jobs, Kenyans have no capital to start businesses,Kenyans have no money to pay school fees,No money for medication. Say no to salary increment.” The MP wrote on X

Also Kenyans have expressed their anger on different social media platforms and wonder why such a step could be taken despite the cries for help in the past two weeks. Leaders urge the government to listen to Kenyans and not take such ignorant and abusive like steps.
