IN HIS NEXT LIFE, RAILA ODINGA WILL WISH TO BE A WILLIAM RUTO.

There is an old saying that goes, If wishes were horses, then beggers could ride. The saying applies better in Former Prime Minister, ODM Party Leader and Azimio flag bearer in the recently concluded Presidential race. If wishes were horses, the Right Honourable Prime Minister could be somewhere relaxing or doing somethng close to relaxing as retired or former President of the republic of Kenya.

The journey to the house on the hill started officially in the year 1997 when Raila Amollo Odinga ran for President. In that years elections, Raila as a presidential candidate garnered slightly over 10% of the total votes cast. He came third to the then President Daniel Moi who successfully defended his seat and Mwai Kibaki who succeeded Moi five years later in 2002.

To Raila, it looked as though the dream had started, little did he knew how quite exhausting and unpredictable the journey could be. Came 2002, 2007, 2013, 2017 and lately 2022. Raila has lost elections to Daniel Moi in 2002, Mwai Kibaki in 2007, Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and twice in 2017 and William Samoei Ruto in 2022. With his loss to President William Ruto, the former PM is still licking his wounds and the signs read... NOT YET HEALED.

Raila wanted to be the third President of the republic of Kenya, Moi stopped him, in the process fate had it that Mwai Kibaki became the third President. In 2007, Kibaki stopped him from becoming the fourth president. In 2013, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta beat Raila hence becoming the fourth. in 2017, Raila wanted to be the 5th, Uhuru beat him again. Fast foward to 2017, the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga tried everything possiple to end up as the occupant of the house on the heal but whatever he has tried has gone wrong where as William Ruto has always ticked all the boxes. Dr. William Ruto in his first attempt is the 5th President of the republic of Kenya.

Now, that Raila has failed in his ultimate ambition of becoming President of the republic of Kenya, is he unlucky or he has been fighting political goats? In another world, Raila could have won eache and every contest he had gone to. On the Presidential race, he has lost every contest.

William Ruto joined active politics the same year Raila Odinga started his Presidential journey call it dream that has failed to come through. William Ruto has won every contest he has gone to directly. Ruto contested in Eldoret North consituency in 1997 and won, he successfully defended his seat in 2002 and 2007. In 2013, William Ruto ran for Deputy President and won, he later defended his position in 2017 successfully. 

In the year 2018, all tides, all storms and everything that could go wrong for a Presidential candidate appeared to be going wrong. To surprise of many, William Ruto emerged victorious and was sworn in as the 5th President of the republic of Kenya. Now before we think about 2027 and Raila the sixth, Don't you think that given a chance, Raila Amollo Odinga will choose to be a William Ruto rather than a Raila Odinga. How else could he get the coveted prize of self actuarization of becoming Head Of State?....
