Medical student's seven year stint in college due to financial challenges

Stella Nyaboke Mokua, a student at Kapkatet Kenya Medical Training College in Kericho risks losing her only oppurtunity remaining to complete her medical course due to financial constraints.

Nyaboke lost her parents nine years ago and well wishers vowed to help her complete her studies but they never turned out to offer help.

She has studied for nearly seven years in a course that could have taken a maximum of four years. If she misses she won't be able to sit for the exam again as the course cannot be extended beyond seven years.

“I’m supposed to sit for my final exams on July 21, 2025 but I have huge arrears amounting to Sh 263,700. I am urging any well-wisher to help me to accomplish my career,” Stella stated.

According to her tutor, she is a bright student who only needs support to complete her studies.

“She has a balance but with the help of the community and well-wishers we hope she will sit for her exams. The difference she will make in her life and family will be immense.”

During off days she engages in different chores within the school premises to enable her to survive in school.

“During weekends I normally assist in gardening of flowers and other chores in the dining hall to push me to survive in school,” she said.

Her fellow students urged the well-wishes to help her in clearing her fee arrears.

“It is a sincere request to any well wisher to help complete her school fees and we will appreciate it,” her collegue said.

“She has been through a lot and she is a determined girl. We normally share food in my house when she has nothing,” her fellow student stated.

She pleade with the Kisii County Government and all stakeholders to help her completes the medical course she started seven years ago.
