SH2.2 TRILLION DANGOTE REFINERY PROJECT MOVES CLOSER TO LAUNCH AS SHIP DOCKS IN LAMU

A vessel carrying nearly 3,000 tonnes of equipment for the planned East African refinery has arrived at Lamu Port ahead of the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.
Preparations for the planned Dangote East African Refinery in Lamu have gathered pace after a vessel carrying construction equipment docked at Lamu Port.
The MV Da Yang Bai He berthed at the port on Saturday, September 26, carrying approximately 2,930 tonnes of project cargo for the multibillion-shilling refinery. The shipment includes equipment and materials intended for the construction of the facility.
The arrival comes days before the planned September 30 groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed refinery site within the Lamu Special Economic Zone. President William Ruto and Dangote Group President and Chief Executive Officer Aliko Dangote are expected to attend the ceremony.
The refinery is planned to have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it one of the largest planned industrial projects in the region. If the current schedule is maintained, the facility could be commissioned around 2030.
The project is expected to strengthen Lamu's position as a major regional industrial and energy hub while supporting the development of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor.
The latest shipment signals that preparations have moved beyond planning and into early project activities, as Kenya positions the refinery as a major investment in its energy and industrial sectors.
