UNIVERSITY OF ELDORET DISCIPLINES PART-TIME LECTURER OVER POLITICAL REMARKS ON RUTO'S 2027 BID
University of Eldoret condemns a part-time lecturer's viral classroom remarks on Ruto's 2027 re-election and initiates disciplinary action, saying his comments do not reflect the institution's position.

A part-time lecturer at the University of Eldoret is facing disciplinary action after he was captured on video making political remarks about President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid and warning students against returning to the institution if the President loses.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 24, 2026, during a SHUM 211 — State, Society and Development — class held at lecture room ED5. A video from the classroom later circulated on social media.
In the video, the lecturer challenges students who described Ruto as a potential one-term president, a position associated with the “Wantam” slogan.
He is heard telling students that if Ruto serves only one term, they should not return to the University of Eldoret.
The lecturer also directed students from different regions to consider universities in their respective areas, mentioning Masinde Muliro University for students from Western Kenya and institutions such as Meru and Dedan Kimathi universities for those from the Mt Kenya region.
The remarks have drawn attention to the use of political and regional references in a university classroom, particularly as Kenya heads towards the 2027 General Election.
The University of Eldoret has since distanced itself from the lecturer’s comments, saying they do not represent the institution’s position, policy or official views.
In a statement, the university said it strongly condemned the remarks and confirmed that immediate disciplinary action had been instituted in line with its policies, regulations and due process.
The university further said all members of staff, including part-time lecturers, are expected to observe professional standards, applicable laws and institutional policies.
It reaffirmed its commitment to equality, non-discrimination, academic professionalism and safeguarding the rights and welfare of its students and staff.
The university has not publicly identified the lecturer or disclosed the specific disciplinary measures he may face. The outcome of the disciplinary process is therefore yet to be announced.
