Dr. James Gesami was sworn in on August 17, 2021, after the Nyamira High Court dismissed a case opposing his nomination and appointment. His appointment to the position of Deputy Governor  was met with strong opposition in the county, but the County Assembly voted to confirm his appointment, putting an end to the squabble.

The Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker Teya, rejected Gesami's nomination in March 2021, citing the DG's lack of clearance from the police and the Credit Reference Bureau.
