The U.S took some factors into consideration when deciding on how and where to burry Osama’s body. According to religious factors there was concern that if he was buried on land, his grave will be a shrine to his followers. Whether they were supposed to provide photos or proof that he was dead was also a concern. A country claimed to be Saudi Arabia where Osama was born denied his body. To avoid Osama’s grave to become a shrine they decided to burry him at sea.
Muslim leaders and scholars had concerns and opinions about the appropriateness of burying him at sea. Claiming that people are buried at sea when they only die at the sea otherwise he should be buried at the ground with his head facing Mecca the birthplace of prophet Muhammad. They argued that a person should receive a respectful burial despite of the crimes committed.
