Ferdinand Omanyala is the new 100M champion of the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, London. Omanyala bounced back weeks after he was knocked out of the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Oregon after emerging fifth in the 100M race.

Omanyala uncrowned South African Akani Simbine, the defending champion, after clocking 10.02 seconds at the championship finals.
Simbine won silver with 10.13 seconds while Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon won bronze with 10.14 seconds.

Omanyala is the second Kenyan to win the title after Seraphino Antao in 1962.
Omanyala bounced back weeks after he was knocked out of the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Oregon after emerging fifth in the 100M race.
The champion had to overcome various hurdles before travelling to the United States such as delayed approval of his Visa.
He expressed his disappointment after the race but remained determined to comeback in the next competitions.
“Every challenge you face today makes you stronger tomorrow. The challenge of life is intended to make you better not bitter. Persistence and resilience only come from being given a chance to work through difficult problems. No matter how much falls on us, we keep moving.” The champion stated.
