Kenyan Journalists protest against discrimination and harassment

Journalists and media practitioners across Kenya united to peacefully demonstrate against the injustices and discrimination they face in their line of duty. This significant movement saw media professionals taking to the streets in various parts of the country to demand respect and fair treatment.

In Kisii County, the demonstration was marked by a display of unity and resilience. Journalists presented "letters of sorrow," eloquently detailing the numerous challenges they encounter, particularly the mistreatment by law enforcement officers. These letters served as a heartfelt plea for understanding and respect for their essential role in society.

Journalists recounted numerous instances where they were subjected to intimidation, physical assault, and unlawful detention by police officers while covering news events. These acts of aggression not only violate their rights but also hinder their ability to report the truth.

"Despite the crucial role journalists play in informing the public and holding power to account, there is a glaring lack of protective measures for them. Many journalists fear for their safety after they are targeted for exposing corruption and other malpractices."one said. 

The demonstrations have shown a united front among Kenyan journalists, emphasizing the critical role of a free and fair press in a democratic society. Media practitioners have vowed to continue their fight for justice and respect until substantial changes are realized.
