KENYANS REACT AFTER GOVERNMENT INCREASES ID REPLACEMENT FEES.

Many Kenyans have expressed frustration over the rising costs and the government's perceived disconnect with the economic challenges. This come after the announcement that Kenyans applying for national ID cards for the first time will have to pay KSh 2,000 and those replacing their IDs will pay KSh1,000. According to the interior Cabinet SecretaryProf. Kithure Kindiki's notice dated November 6, he announced that the acquisition of ID cards will no longer be free.

Kenyans seeking ID replacement will now face a 20- fold increase in charges with the new fees being Sh 2,000, up from the previous Sh100. The government further increased the fees for ordinarly passport from KSh 4,500 to KSh 7,500. The government also increased the cost of current birth and death certificate from KSh 50 to KSh 200.

Kenyans reacted over this saying that; Kenya Kwanza is increasing prices for everything from fuel, national ID, death certificates, passports and marriage certificates. They are now appealing to the Azimio leader to stand for them instead of remaining  silent. They want Baba to immediately announce the day of protests over the same.

The government on the other hand, reported that they are facing cashflow challenges as per the statement by the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, Njuguna Ndung'u. Additionally the increasing taxes and widening the tax base are among the strategies that the government is using  to increase liquidity.
