Kisii high school is a public national boys’ school , which is a non-prolific institution. Kisii school was established in the year 1934 to provide quality secondary education to young pupils. The school is located in Kisii county

The mandate of the school is to implement the government’s education programme with the view of developing their potential in national leadership.

In 1934 after Kenya gains its independence, the Government grew its interest in education. This was because of the Phelps-Stokes Commission report of 1925. Eventually it started as GAS (Government African School). It was supported by the Local Native council of South Kavirondo.

1934, It started African courses at primary school; this was from standard 4 to standard 6. However, when it was unable to get pupils the school admitted pupils in the substandard level with 15 pupils in standard 2 and 3.

In 1993, the school presented the first candidates for primary school examinations. At which point it had a total of 60 pupils that were divided into two streams of 30 students. Half of the students comprised of Kisiis and the other half of Luos.

The secondary school education was started in 1945. By this time it was called the junior secondary equivalent to two classes that were standard 7 and standard 8, with the population of pupils remaining at 60 per class. In 1946, it presented the first student for Kenya African Preliminary Examination.

In 1949 the senior secondary which was comprised of form 3 and 4 was started and the candidates were to prepare for KASSE (Kenya African Secondary School Examination). In 1950, they presented students for the same examination.

In the year 1953, the school admitted candidates for a P3 teacher training course which lasted for 3 years. The course was later shifted over to Kabianga teachers’ college and was then known as Kabianga Boys, which currently goes by the name Kericho Teachers’ training college.

In 1956, the school entered its first candidates for Cambridge School Certificate. Commonly known as the ‘A’ level examination.

In 1967, the ‘A’ level science clas or science stream was started. By now the student population was at 430 i.e from form 1 to form 6.

In the year 2012, the school was elevated to national status. The school is very active in co-curricular activities like science and engineering fair, rugby, handball, basketball, football, hockey, badminton athletics among others. They were also the national soccer champions in  the year 1997.

HISTORY AND TRADITIONS

The school has been having good performance to date. It records A level grades making it one of the best school in Kenya. 527 students took the kcse 2022 examinations in total. Despite having a large number of candidates the school’’s average score was 9.12. A modest improvement over the kcse 2021 exam.

The best grades were widely distributed. Twenty two of the 527 candidates attained an A, while 93 attained an A-minus(A-).

After attaining the required C+ plus mark university entrance, a total of 500 students would enroll in university education directly through Kenya University and College Central Placement(KUCCPS)

For a candidate to join Kisii school he must attain the required marks.
