Man Found Dead in Decommissioned Toilet at Hema Hospital

A hospital worker was found dead in a toilet after months of sleeping at his workplace.

According to colleagues, Rodgers Masese had been facing serious financial difficulties after allegedly going for long periods without pay. Due to the situation, he was reportedly unable to pay rent and was eventually locked out of his house by his landlord.

Workers at the hospital said the deceased had resorted to sleeping within the hospital compound, using the floor of an unused toilet facility as a place to rest at night. One employee stated that Masese had been living in those conditions for more than five months.

Colleagues described him as a hardworking man who continued to show up despite the challenges he was facing.

A hospital employee who spoke about the incident said, Rodgers Masese had been working at the facility together with his brother, Steve Masese, who was later retrenched. The employee expressed frustration with the hospital management, claiming that some workers had gone for months without receiving their salaries.

The worker said she had also received a retrenchment letter from the hospital after demanding payment of her 12 months’ salary arrears. She added that she and the deceased were among employees listed for redundancy.

The employee further accused the hospital management of unfairly labeling Masese as a drunkard, insisting that his struggles were linked to financial hardship rather than personal behavior.

The incident has sparked concern among workers and residents, with calls for investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death as well as the welfare of employees at the facility.

Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiries to establish the cause of death and determine the events leading up to the tragic discovery.
