Katana Kahindi, 28 and Emmanuel Karisa 50, were buried inside the well 50 feet after its well broke loose. According to the reports the second victim fell into the well on a mission to rescue his collegue, this was on 16th October , 2023 and it happened in Junda, Kisauni Mombasa county.

Daniel Otieno from the County Department of Transport and Infrastructure confirmed that the department is working towards recovering the bodies that are certain have no life. Otieno explained that expanding the rescue mission was ipmossible due to concerns about the light nature of the soil in the region, which could result in futher casualties. He therefore, requested the Junda residents to halt theirefforts to retrieve the bodies hence the type of soil is light and it needs experts to undertake the exercise. By then the bodies were in the well for close to two days.

The Juda resdents shered their worries wanting the bodies to be retrieved as soon as possible. They said that they were told that should wait for experts who were no where to be seen for almost 24 hours. A angry resident from the region by the name Kevin Wasonga questioned if they were waiting for experts from China. He also called for the empowerment of the youth. Wasonga stated that the government's bottom-up economic model ought to lift young people who are struggling to feed their families. He also added that those people whose bodies are yet to be recovered were struggling to feed their families and the accident occured because they had no protection gears.

Otieno, however, promised to liaise with Governor Abdullswamad Sharrif Nassir, among other officials to see the success of the mission within the shortest time possible. On the other hand, Senator Moraj Abdillahi also expressed her fears about the coming EL Nino rains, which might claim many lives. She also noted that the county commissioner said that there are no equipments to rescue the victims hence the delay.

According to her, the county government allocates money to the Emergency Management Response Committee (EMRC) yearly, yet they are not accountable for. Therefore, she said she will want to find out how much the EMRC is allocated, how they utilise the cash and why they have not bought the equipment. She further stated that she would propose legistration demanding that all the drillers be trained and issued with neccessary certification from the office of the member of Counyt Assembly.
