OCS Talaam face murder charges.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved murder charges against three police officers and other three suspects in connection with the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang.

This follows an investigation conducted by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

In a statement released the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) invoked Article 157(4) of the Constitution and Section 5(2) of the ODPP Act to direct IPOA to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death.

After the review, the DPP approved murder charges against three police officers; OCS Samson Taalam, James Mukhwana, Peter Kimani and the suspects John Ngige, Gin Ammiton, and Brian Mwaniki Njue.

IPOA subsequently submitted the inquiry file to the ODPP on June 2, 2025.

Upon receipt of the file, the DPP appointed a team of senior prosecutors to thoroughly review the evidence.

The ODPP reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served in accordance with the Constitution and in the public interest.

Albert Ojwang's death had sparked public concern and calls for accountability within law enforcement, placing increased scrutiny on the conduct of police officers and the justice system’s response to alleged misconduct.
