THE NYARIBO IMPEACHMENT: A STORM IN A TEA CUP AND 2027 ELECTIONS.
Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo was first nominated by ODM as Late John Nyagarama's running mate and there by became the first Deputy Governor of Nyamira County and late the Second Governor afte Nyagarama's demise.
When 28 Members of The County Assembly of Nyamira appended their signatures in a notice to impeach Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo, few people will see him survive the Nyamira storm. Most of the political seers had predicted that the 2nd Governor of Nyamira will only be saved by the Senate and at the mercy of the President or Kenya Kwanza which has the Majority in the Senate. However, it turned out to be a storm in a tea cup and alas, let there be calm and calm it was.
The attempts by the Majority Whip in the National Assembly who also happens to be the South Mugirango Member of Parliament rattled the high and might. It raised more questions than answers. What was Hon Silvanus Osoro's interest in Nyamira politics? A story for another day.
Back to Governor Nyaribo's failed impeachment attaempt. What was it about?
The main issue here was politics. It had been alluded before that an impeachment process is a political process and that is why it is done by politicians. So why rule out politics on this?
Nyamira has a number of people, politicians and technocrats who will wish to succeed governor Nyaribo whenever an opportunity arises. Starting from Deputy Governor Hon. Dr. James Ondicho Gesami who could have been the immediate beneficially to 2027 hopefuls most of them who competed with him in 2022 general elections to other invicibles.
Dr. Gesami did'nt say anything until too late... Why? was he salvating for the seat? In his own words, Dr. Gesami said he had no hand in Nyaribo's failed impeachment motion but his silence during the process spoke alot.
On his hand, Governor Nyaribo pointed out that Gesami might have had a hand in him being impeached. You are the Judge.
After the impeachment failed, Governor Nyaribo rattled his opponents even more. "I will be here until 2032". He said. The question his, does that mean that he will serve three terms?
The simple explanation is... Governor Nyaribo came into office in December 29th 2020. This signifies that by the time Governor Nyagarma died, he had served formore than half of his term and thus Nyaribo came in and served less than half of the remaining term. The significancy of this fact is that Nyaribo started his second reign of 2022 - 2027 on a clean slate and against many peoples believes and wishes, Nyaribo is serving his first term and is eligible to defend his seat come 2027.
The aforementioned fact leaves Nyaribo's opponents in awkward positions. They lost to Nyaribo when he ran on a lttle known political Party UPA. The fact that the party is linked to a former powerful civil servant is neglible and it is well documentd that Hon. Walter Nyambati of UDA, Hon. Timothy Bosire of ODM, Hon. ben Momanyi of Wiper all lost to the underated Nyaribo.
What else should the aforementioned individuals wish for rather than seeng Nyaribo failing/
Another aspect in Nyaribo's impeachment is the presumed entry of Nakuru Town West MP. Hon. Samwel Arama into the Nyamira Matrix. Rumour has it that the third term law maker is making ground to make a stab into Nyamira Gurbaatorial position come 2027.
