THREE KENYA POWER OFFICIALS CHARGED WITH SABOTAGE AND NEGLIGENCE

Six Kenya Power officials were let free after their charges were dropped but it wasn't the same for their other three senior collegues (Raphael Ndolo who is Acting General Manger, David Kamau who is Transmission Manager and Julius Mwaniki who is a second assistant engineer) were charged with negligence of duty and sabotage yesterday.

Six Kenya Power officials were let free after their charges were dropped but it wasn't the same for their other three senior colleagues (Raphael Ndolo who is Acting General Manager, David Kamau who is Transmission Manager, and Julius Mwaniki who is a second assistant engineer) were charged with negligence of duty and sabotage yesterday.

The three who were in charge of the central office denied being guilty of the two counts laid against them and any connection to the power blackout that was experienced across the country on January 11, 2022. Diana Mochace, The Kahawa Law Court's Chief Magistrate instructed Kamau, Ndolo, and Mwaniki to deposit Sh one million as cash bail with an alternative surety bond of Sh two million. The case was then scheduled to be heard on March 7, 2022.

The charge that was read to Ndolo, Kamau, and Mwaniki state that on different dates that are between November 29, 2021, and January 11, 2022. Together with other Kenya Power And Lighting employees who were not present in court, they unlawfully with intent to sabotage failed to maintain and reinforce the Dandora-Embakasi high voltage power lines that supply electricity to Kenyans, leading to the collapse of towers eleven, twelve, thirteen, and fourteen in Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate.
