19-YEAR-OLD KEMASARE STUDENT FOUND TIED AND DEAD IN SASATI RIVER AFTER THEFT ALLEGATIONS

A 19-year-old Kemasare Secondary School student, Clinton Onsomu, was found dead, tied up and dumped in Sasati River, Nyamira County, after reportedly being suspected of theft.

A 19-year-old Form Four student at Kemasare Secondary School, identified as Clinton Onsomu, has been found dead in Sasati River in Bundo Village, Nyamira Township Ward, West Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Clinton’s body was reportedly discovered naked, with his hands tied behind his back, and bearing injuries. His body had allegedly been dumped in the river.

According to his mother, Cecilia Kerubo Onsomu, Clinton had previously been suspected of involvement in theft incidents in the village but had stopped and, in recent times, had changed his ways and become a responsible young man.

The deceased had reportedly been arrested by police on Monday over allegations of stealing and slaughtering a goat together with a friend. He was later released.

Recounting the events leading to the discovery of her son’s body, his mother, Cecilia Kerubo Onsomu, said a woman came to her home in the morning asking whether she knew where Clinton was. She said Clinton had gone to a funeral vigil at around 10pm the previous night and had not returned.

According to Kerubo, the woman told her that the previous night, someone had been seen being beaten along the road with tree branches. The person was reportedly crying and saying he was being beaten for no reason and that he was on his way to a funeral vigil.

Kerubo said she later went to the road, where another woman informed her that her son had been murdered and his body dumped in the river. She rushed to the scene and found Clinton lying face down.

“They killed him for nothing. He had reformed,” Kerubo said, appealing for justice.

Another resident, Pamela Moraa, recalled that her mother returned home from picking tea after hearing that someone had been killed at the river. After confirming that the victim was Clinton, Moraa went to the scene and found him dead.

Moraa condemned the killing and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands, saying matters of suspected crime should be handled through the proper legal channels.

“He was tied and killed like a goat. It was a very bad scene,” she said, while also urging children who are currently on holiday to avoid crime and engage in constructive activities.

Villagers are now calling for investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and bring those responsible to justice.

Speaking to our reporter, residents of Bundo urged young people to stay away from criminal activities and instead engage in productive activities that can improve their lives and the community.
