Youth leader Allans Ademba has challenged Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, to address healthcare concerns in the constituency before pursuing his reported ambitions for the Nairobi Senate seat.

Ademba raised concerns over services at Mugumoini Health Centre, alleging that the facility closes at 6 pm despite information indicating that it offers 24-hour services.

He claimed the health centre lacks adequate staff to serve patients at night and that some patients are forced to purchase medicines from private pharmacies when the required drugs are unavailable.

According to Ademba, the situation raises questions about access to reliable and affordable healthcare for residents who depend on public health facilities.

Responding to the concerns, Jalang’o explained that healthcare is a devolved function managed by the Nairobi County Government.

The MP acknowledged that Mugumoini Health Centre does not operate around the clock but said three nearby health facilities offer 24-hour services.

However, Ademba urged the legislator to use his influence to lobby the county government for improved staffing and consistent medicine supplies at the facility.

He maintained that addressing residents’ healthcare needs should remain a priority as political discussions surrounding the 2027 General Election gather momentum.

The exchange has brought attention to the responsibilities of elected leaders in addressing public service concerns, particularly healthcare access in urban constituencies.

Under Kenya’s devolved system of government, county administrations are responsible for county health services, including county health facilities. Members of Parliament can raise community concerns and push for accountability, even where service delivery falls under county jurisdiction.

The allegations concerning Mugumoini Health Centre’s operating hours, staffing and medicine availability have not been independently verified.
