AT 24, WALUBENGO NAMED SECRETARY GENERAL AS NYORO REBUILDS PEOPLE'S PARTY

Benny Hinn Walubengo has been named Secretary General of the People’s Party of Kenya as party leader Ndindi Nyoro unveiled the first batch of designated officials.
Nyoro announced the new leadership team on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, following a party meeting where officials deliberated on national issues and the direction of the political outfit.
Walubengo, who represents Nairobi County in the party structure, is 24 years old. Nyoro singled him out during the announcement, describing him as “intelligent” and “articulate.”
The newly designated officials include Riziki Makokha as Deputy Party Leader from Busia County, Samora K’alosi as Chairperson from Homa Bay County and Mwanamisi Swaleh as Vice Chairperson from Kwale County.
John Kihiu was named Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration Affairs, representing Kiambu County, while Mahad Abdi was designated Treasurer from Mandera County. Dr Jane Sibia was named Organising Secretary from Kisii County.
The appointments form part of the party’s efforts to establish its organisational structure as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro said the People’s Party would work with other opposition parties while developing what he described as policy alternatives for the country’s economic revival.
The Kiharu MP joined the People’s Party in August after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), subsequently positioning the party within the opposition.
The latest appointments therefore mark another stage in the party’s efforts to build its leadership structure and expand its activities across the country.
The party has referred to the officials as designated officials, meaning the announcement should be understood in that context rather than as confirmation of a separately elected national party office.
