CAF PRESIDENT PATRICE MOTSEPE TO INSPECT KENYA’S AFCON 2027 PREPARATIONS

CAF President Patrice Motsepe is set to visit Kenya on Friday, September 18, 2026, to assess the country’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Motsepe’s visit forms part of a two-day tour of Tanzania and Kenya as the three East African countries intensify preparations to jointly host the continental tournament in 2027.
During his visit to Kenya, the CAF president is expected to engage government officials and inspect key facilities earmarked for the tournament. The assessment is expected to focus on the readiness of stadiums and other critical infrastructure required to host teams, officials and supporters.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania were selected to jointly host AFCON 2027, marking a significant opportunity for East Africa to stage Africa’s biggest football tournament.
The visit comes after CAF carried out an extensive technical inspection of facilities across the three host countries. The inspection covered areas including stadiums, training grounds, hotels, airports and other tournament-related infrastructure.
Kenya has been undertaking upgrades and renovations of facilities as it works to meet CAF’s standards ahead of the competition. The country’s preparations have attracted considerable attention as officials work against the tournament deadline.
Motsepe’s inspection will provide an opportunity for CAF to review progress on the ground and engage Kenyan authorities on the remaining requirements.
AFCON 2027 is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania preparing to welcome some of the continent’s leading national teams and football fans.
The CAF president’s visit is therefore expected to be an important milestone as preparations move into a critical phase ahead of the tournament.
