DCI BREAKS SILENCE ON DENNIS OSIEMO’S DEATH AS FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE.

In its official release, the DCI said it had noted claims circulating on social media concerning Osiemo’s death while in custody and sought to place the facts on record. According to the agency, Osiemo was arrested in connection with a case of assault causing actual bodily harm reported at Narumoru Police Station.

The complaint stemmed from an incident on July 2, 2026, in which Osiemo, a former farmhand of the complainant, allegedly went to her home, assaulted her and stabbed her several times before fleeing the scene. The complainant reported the matter and was admitted to Tumutumu Hospital, where she remained for nine days.

Concerns raised by the complainant with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Nanyuki prompted the DCI to take over the investigation. Detectives traced Osiemo to Kisii County, where he had reportedly gone into hiding. With assistance from the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer for Masaba North, officers from Kieni East arrested him on September 18, 2026. He was first booked at Keroka Police Station pending collection, then transferred and booked at Narumoru Police Station on September 19.



The DCI stated that Osiemo recorded a statement and was observed to be in a normal condition before being returned to the cells. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 21, to face the assault charge.

However, on Sunday, September 20, Osiemo was found hanging from the ventilation grills inside the police cell at Narumoru Police Station. The scene was processed immediately in the presence of officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), senior police officers and a relative of the deceased. His body was then moved to the Narumoru mortuary pending an autopsy.

The DCI confirmed that the investigation into Osiemo’s death has been taken over by IPOA. “The DCI will accord the Authority full cooperation,” the statement said. The agency extended its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Dennis Aremo Osiemo, saying it shared in their grief and remained committed to a transparent process aimed at establishing the full circumstances of his death.



The public was urged to rely on verified official information and await the outcome of the independent investigation rather than draw conclusions from unverified social media claims.

Osiemo’s death has sparked significant online discussion and expressions of concern from members of the public, with some relatives and observers calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances of a death in police custody. IPOA’s involvement is expected to examine the events leading to the discovery of the body and the conditions of detention. An autopsy will provide further medical findings on the cause of death.

As of Wednesday, authorities continued to stress the importance of allowing the independent process to run its course. The case highlights ongoing public interest in accountability regarding deaths occurring while suspects are held by police. No further official updates on the autopsy results or IPOA’s preliminary findings had been released by press time.
