EACC ARRESTS TWO MORE NYAMIRA COUNTY ASSEMBLY OFFICIALS AS GRAFT PROBE INTO SH367M TENDER WIDENS

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a KES 367 million tender for the construction of an office block for the Assembly.

The two suspects, David Nyirango Ombego, Deputy Clerk/Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services, and Joyce Onyiego, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, were arrested in Kisii County during an operation conducted by EACC investigators.

According to the commission, the alleged irregularities in the tender process resulted in the loss of KES 30,187,396 in public funds.

The suspects are expected to face charges including abuse of office, willful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.

They are currently being processed at the EACC’s South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii pending arraignment in court.

Their arrest comes after three other Nyamira County Assembly officials were previously arrested and charged in connection with the same case. They include Duke Simeon Onyari, Clerk of the Nyamira County Assembly; Eng. Josephat Matini Oruru, Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works; and Simon Ondari Ogecha, Infrastructure Officer.
