GOONS DISRUPT LINDA MWANANCHI TOUR IN NYAHURURU, LEAVING KANG'ATA'S DRIVER CRITICALLY INJURED BY GUNSHOT

A Linda Mwananchi movement engagement in Nyandarua County descended into chaos on Sunday, July 12, leaving Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s driver critically injured with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The incident occurred during the movement’s activities in Nyahururu, following the cancellation of a planned stop in Ol Kalou. The group had adjusted its itinerary after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly warned Governor Kang’ata against holding the rally in Ol Kalou, describing it as a local affair that should be left to residents and DCP leaders.

According to Governor Kang’ata, the team faced attacks in Nyahururu. They were stoned while at an AIPCA church, his vehicle was blocked and reportedly confiscated by suspected goons, and his driver, identified as Gitari, was shot in the chest during the confrontation. Gitari is currently hospitalized with a bullet still lodged in his chest.

Kang’ata condemned the violence, stating that his team came in peace. “We came here in peace. We don’t carry anything. We are only talking,” he said. The chaos caused panic, forcing leaders to cut short the event. Some reports indicate police deployed teargas amid the disorder.

The violence comes amid heightened tensions ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election scheduled for July 16. It has raised concerns over possible orchestrated disruptions and the safety of political engagements in the region. The shooting has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for thorough investigations and accountability.

As of Sunday evening, Gitari’s condition remains a serious concern. This incident highlights the volatile political atmosphere surrounding the Linda Mwananchi movement and upcoming electoral activities in Nyandarua.
