Hazzan Mega Wholesalers, located in Kisii Central Business District, was on Monday surrounded by heaps of garbage and raw sewage allegedly dumped by individuals said to be linked to the Green Army, a group of boda boda riders recently engaged as Kisii Municipality cleaners and associated by critics with Governor Simba Arati's administration.
The incident has sparked public concern, with critics questioning whether waste disposal is being used as a form of intimidation against business owners seeking legal redress.
Traders operating within Kisii Town have threatened to stage demonstrations, claiming members of the group have increasingly been patrolling the CBD armed with clubs and hoe handles while confronting and allegedly harassing people they accuse of improper waste disposal.
The latest incident comes amid growing complaints from traders in Kisii Town over alleged targeted harassment by county enforcement teams. Recently, traders at Kisii Marikiti staged protests, claiming some of their members had been harassed without the involvement or knowledge of the market committee.
The traders threatened to halt revenue collection until Governor Simba Arati addresses their grievances, saying their concerns remain unresolved. The market committee has also called for its inclusion in the enforcement of waste disposal regulations within the market to ensure fairness and avoid future confrontations.

MP Kibagendi is the latest leader to comment on the incident. In a Facebook post, he condemned the alleged act, saying: "Gov. Simba Arati, what nonsense is this you are doing to investors in Kisii Town? Do you think this will make you a star? It only demonstrates a lack of leadership. So sad." He blamed Governor Paul Simba Arati for the incident.
