GRADE 9 STUDENT ARRESTED OVER CLASSMATE’S MURDER IN MIGORI MIGORI, Kenya.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2026, when the suspect allegedly attacked the 17-year-old victim with a panga (machete) as the victim was walking home from school in the evening.
According to Kamgundho Location Chief Samuel Onjiko, the two students had clashed earlier that morning after the suspect accused the deceased of interfering with his locker and learning materials. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect deliberately skipped afternoon classes to lie in wait for the victim.
The victim sustained severe injuries in the attack and was rushed to Migori Level Four Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment. His body has been moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.The chief, who apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident, handed him over to officers at Uriri Police Station. The 17-year-old remains in custody as detectives continue investigations. He is expected to be arraigned in court once charging formalities are completed.
Education officials and local leaders have expressed shock over the killing, with many calling for heightened vigilance against violence involving students and the introduction of stricter measures to curb carrying of dangerous weapons near schools.

This incident comes amid growing national concerns over rising cases of violence in Kenyan schools, prompting calls from child rights advocates and education stakeholders for urgent interventions, including counselling programmes and improved security in learning institutions.
