MANHUNT WIDENS FOR SANG AS DCI PROBES LINKS BETWEEN MBOBU, MUTISO MURDERS

The investigation into the murders of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has taken a new turn, with authorities reportedly widening the search for a key suspect believed to be outside Kenya.

Inspector Kenneth Sang, who has been identified by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as an alleged coordinator in the operation linked to Mbobu’s killing, remains at large. Investigators have also linked him to Rose Mbithe, who is in custody over the July 2026 murder of Dr Mutiso. 

Mbobu was shot dead on September 9, 2025, while driving home along Magadi Road in Nairobi. The investigation received a major development last week after police arrested Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot, whom detectives suspect was the gunman. A Ceska pistol issued to Cheruiyot was recovered, and investigators said ballistic examination linked the firearm to the murder. 

Detectives have since arrested two boda boda riders. Nicholas Lemiso Naula is suspected of transporting Cheruiyot to and from the scene, while Noah Kipkirui Langat is accused of conducting surveillance on Mbobu before the shooting. 

Dr Mutiso was fatally shot in Upper Hill, Nairobi, on July 29, 2026. Investigators are examining possible links between the two killings, including a property dispute involving individuals connected to the cases. However, the motive and the full circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation. 

With Sang still at large, detectives are continuing to pursue leads to establish his whereabouts and determine the alleged roles of all those involved. Authorities have said investigations will continue until the circumstances surrounding both killings are fully established.
