KITHURE KINDIKI URGES MT KENYA RIVALS TO RESPECT ELDERS AND EMBRACE UNITY
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Mt Kenya political rivals to respect elders, embrace unity and avoid personal attacks as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged political leaders in the Mt Kenya region to respect elders and heed their call for unity amid growing political differences ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Tharaka Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, on Monday, September 21, Kindiki said elders had a unique role in preserving the unity of the community because they were not competing for elective positions or political influence.
Kindiki's remarks came two days after thousands of elders from the Kikuyu, Embu, Mbeere and Meru communities gathered at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County and endorsed him as the region's spokesperson.
The elders mandated Kindiki to spearhead unity, reconciliation and development across the Mt Kenya region.
The Deputy President said political leaders with disagreements should seek guidance from elders instead of engaging in personal attacks.
"We must respect our elders. If you have an issue, seek out the elders and discuss it with them," Kindiki said, according to Citizen Digital.
He also said he had forgiven people who had insulted or criticised him and called on his political rivals to focus on development rather than personal attacks.
Kindiki maintained that political differences should not be allowed to divide communities that share historical, cultural and economic ties.
The endorsement at Kirigiti, however, has sparked political disagreement. Some leaders, including allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have rejected the declaration, arguing that political leadership should ultimately be determined by the people rather than elders.
The debate comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, with competing leaders seeking influence over the political direction of the Mt Kenya region.
Kindiki has said his focus will be on promoting unity and development while supporting President William Ruto's administration.
