Murder suspect John Matara has told the Milimani High Court that socialite Starlet Wahu allegedly attacked him with a knife during a dispute over Sh50,000.
Matara made the allegation while presenting his defence in the murder trial arising from Wahu’s death in Nairobi in January 2024.
In his testimony, Matara claimed that a disagreement over an alleged outstanding payment of Sh50,000 escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Wahu allegedly stabbed him several times.
He further claimed that he managed to escape from the apartment after the alleged attack.
Matara’s account forms part of his defence against the murder charge. His testimony constitutes an allegation and should not be treated as an established fact unless supported by evidence accepted by the court.
The prosecution is required to prove the charge beyond reasonable doubt. Matara is presumed innocent unless and until he is convicted by a competent court.
The court will consider the evidence adduced by both parties in determining the circumstances surrounding Wahu’s death and Matara’s criminal responsibility, if any.
The proceedings remain ongoing, and the allegations made during the defence case have yet to be determined by the court.
