The Nairobi Hospital has reassured the public that it remains fully operational after an Ebola patient died at the facility on Monday evening.

The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Felix Osano, said the patient was treated in a dedicated isolation facility that is physically separate from the main hospital.

According to the management, the isolation unit has its own entrance, access route and dedicated staff, with no shared clinical space with the main hospital.

Emergency services, maternity, operating theatres, wards and outpatient services have continued to operate normally.

The patient was admitted to the isolation facility on October 3 after arriving in Nairobi from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda. He later tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola and died on October 5.

The hospital said strict infection prevention and control measures were followed throughout his treatment, with healthcare workers using the required protective equipment under supervision.

Health authorities have identified contacts linked to the patient and are monitoring them in line with public health protocols.

The Ministry of Health has also been tracing passengers and crew members who travelled on the same flight as the patient.

Dr Osano urged patients, families and staff not to panic, saying the hospital remains open and safe while continuing to work closely with health authorities.

Kenya's Health Ministry has meanwhile urged the public to remain vigilant and rely on official information as surveillance and contact-tracing efforts continue.
