Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has secured a legal victory after the High Court dismissed an application by Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegenye seeking to increase legal costs awarded to him from KSh66,290 to approximately KSh2.1 million.

In a ruling delivered on October 15, 2026, Justice Patricia Nyaundi struck out Nyegenye's application, finding that it had been filed outside the required legal deadline.

The decision means the original assessment of KSh66,290 remains in place, dealing a setback to the Senate Clerk's attempt to recover the higher amount.

The dispute arose from Orwoba's 2023 attempt to stop disciplinary proceedings against her in the Senate. The legal battle later extended to disagreements over the costs arising from the court proceedings.

Nyegenye had sought to have the amount awarded as legal costs reviewed upwards, but the court declined to entertain his application because of the delay in filing it.
The latest ruling adds another development to the series of legal disputes involving Orwoba and the Senate Clerk.

However, the decision relates specifically to the legal costs application and does not overturn a separate defamation judgment against Orwoba.

In July 2025, Orwoba was ordered to pay Nyegenye KSh10.5 million in a separate case involving social media posts that the court found defamatory.

The October 2026 ruling therefore addresses the dispute over legal costs and should not be interpreted as reversing the earlier defamation judgment.

The decision highlights the importance of complying with court deadlines when filing applications to review or challenge legal costs.
