Sebo was apprehended at around 9:55–10pm on Thursday, 8 October 2026, after officers from Homa Bay Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Homa Bay Sub-County moved to execute an arrest warrant issued by the Homa Bay Law Courts on 14 August 2026. The warrant relates to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 251 of the Penal Code. The operation was conducted under the command of County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem.
According to police accounts and the Occurrence Book report, the situation became chaotic shortly after Sebo’s apprehension. Several men allegedly accompanying him attempted to obstruct officers, prompting a call for reinforcements. Additional officers arrived, secured the area, and arrested the seven others on accusations of interfering with the execution of the court warrant.
Those arrested alongside Sebo are:
- Victor Odhiambo Achiando (also referred to as Achiando Victor Odhiambo), 26
- Isaac Masika Muliro, alias Waigo, 30
- Moses Geoffrey Oyege (also Oyege Moses Geoffrey), 27
- Geoffrey Njore, 25
- Wesley Arnold Odhiambo, alias Mwas (also Odhiambo Wesley Arnold), 26
- Joseph Kobila, 28
- Alfred Nyagiro Aliwa, 26
All eight suspects were taken into police custody pending arraignment in court. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances of the incident.
Sebo had been sought by authorities over the assault case and had earlier been directed by the National Police Service (NPS) to report to the DCI County Headquarters in Homa Bay to assist with probes into violence linked to the Linda Mwananchi team’s visit to the county on 16 August 2026. He did not comply with that directive. His name has also been associated in reports with allegations of robberies, violent incidents, and the unrest during the Linda Mwananchi tour.
The August unrest left multiple people dead, including a police officer (a driver attached to the Nyando police command who was struck by a stone), and scores injured—some seriously, with reports citing figures of around 46 injured, including cases of panga wounds, gunshot injuries, and other trauma. Vehicles were torched or damaged, journalists were attacked, and property was vandalised as groups of youths reportedly barricaded roads and disrupted the convoy. Police previously arrested dozens of suspects in connection with the violence (including 12 in Homa Bay who took plea and were placed on bond, and others in related Kisumu incidents), while continuing to investigate wider claims.
Sebo has been described as the alleged leader of the Hammer Boys, a group that has faced accusations of involvement in political mobilisation, intimidation, and violence in parts of Homa Bay County. Reports have also linked him to claims of connections with political and government figures in the region, though these remain unproven allegations under investigation, with no formal charges publicly confirmed on those points. Some reports have additionally referred to him in connection with ODM youth activities or earlier incidents involving Linda Mwananchi organisers.
Following the arrests, protests erupted in Homa Bay town, with youths reportedly lighting bonfires, barricading roads, and demanding the suspects’ release. This led to temporary disruption of matatu services and business closures into Friday morning. Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo described the situation as “sad.”
Investigators are expected to pursue the outstanding assault case against Sebo and examine the broader allegations surrounding the group and the August violence. The suspects remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law. The arrests form part of ongoing police efforts targeting organised criminal and gang-related activity.
