Rosemary Odinga has shared a touching childhood memory involving her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, recalling a lesson she learned while helping him build a swimming pool at their home.
Speaking during the dedication of Raila Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo, Siaya County, Rosemary remembered how her father once involved her in marking out the area where the pool would be built.
She said Raila used two pegs and a rope to create the outline of the pool, with Rosemary holding one of the pegs as he moved around her.
The experience, she said, taught her important lessons about patience, determination and the value of hands-on work.
For Rosemary, the memory offered a personal glimpse into her relationship with her father beyond his public life as a prominent Kenyan political figure.
She described Raila as more than a father, remembering him as a mentor and adviser whose influence shaped many aspects of her life.
The recollection formed part of tributes celebrating Raila’s life and legacy as family, friends and supporters gathered to honour the former Prime Minister.
