RUTO COMMISSIONS RAILA ODINGA'S MAUSOLEUM AT KANG'O KA JARAMOGI

President William Ruto has officially commissioned and dedicated the mausoleum of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

The ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, bringing together Raila’s widow Mama Ida Odinga, members of the Odinga family, religious leaders, government officials and other invited guests.

During the ceremony, President Ruto paid tribute to Raila, describing him as a patriot, Pan-Africanist and statesman whose decades-long public career was closely linked to Kenya’s democratic development.

Ruto said Raila remained committed to expanding Kenya’s democratic space despite years of political struggle, detention and adversity. He said the mausoleum would serve as a lasting reminder of Raila’s life, public service and contribution to the country.

Mama Ida formally dedicated the site to God and called for the mausoleum to remain a place of peace and remembrance.

The facility was constructed through the Kenya Defence Forces and is expected to come under the stewardship of the National Museums of Kenya for preservation, documentation and interpretation.

The mausoleum stands beside the resting place of Raila’s father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President.

The October 7 commissioning was a restricted, invitation-only state ceremony due to limited space and security considerations.

Members of the public are expected to access the mausoleum from October 8, while broader commemorative activities will continue ahead of the first anniversary of Raila’s death on October 15.
