TRAGIC DOUBLE MURDER OF TWO SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRLS SHAKES BOMAKOMBI VILLAGE IN KISII COUNTY
In a heartbreaking tragedy in Bomakombi Village, Bomorenda Ward, Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, two six-year-old PP2 girls were defiled, murdered, stuffed into a sack, and dumped beside a fence on Tuesday evening, July 8, 2026.
According to accounts shared by the mother of one of the victims, Ann Bahati, the children returned from school around 5 p.m. She gave them tea before they went out to play at their aunt’s nearby home. When they failed to arrive, concern grew by 6:30 p.m. The family immediately launched a search after the brother sent to fetch Ann learned she had never reached the aunt’s place. After an extensive effort, the bodies were discovered next to a fence—one inside a sack and the other outside it.
Area MCA John Ombati confirmed that the bodies of the two girls were found dead in sacks around 9 p.m. and showed signs of sexual abuse. Speaking to residents, he expressed frustration over security lapses and urged swift action. He warned that if the national police failed to provide adequate security, local sungu sungu groups should intervene to ensure justice. Ombati strongly condemned the perpetrators, calling for their houses to be burned and for them to face death by stoning.
Many villagers attribute the incident to growing insecurity in the area, pointing to young people involved in theft and the abuse of bhang and alcohol as contributing factors that have heightened risks for residents, especially children.
Residents described the scene as one of unimaginable horror, with the manner of disposal suggesting a callous attempt to conceal the crime. The families, overcome with shock and sorrow, have come forward publicly to plead for justice and have urged authorities to apprehend those responsible without delay. Community members in Bomakombi and surrounding areas have expressed deep outrage and fear, questioning how such a heinous act could occur against young children who are normally under close supervision. This has made the circumstances of their disappearance particularly alarming.
Local media outlet Getembe TV has amplified the families’ voices, highlighting their demand for a thorough investigation and accountability. Hashtags such as #JusticeForTheGirls have begun circulating as residents call for an end to violence against children.
Police have been notified, and investigations are expected to intensify. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) typically handles such cases involving minors, with post-mortem examinations anticipated to provide critical forensic evidence on the cause of death and the nature of the assault.
This tragedy underscores the vulnerabilities faced by young children in rural parts of Kenya, where child safety, sexual violence, and rapid response to missing persons reports remain significant challenges. Child rights advocates frequently emphasize the need for stronger community vigilance, better-equipped local policing, and improved support systems for families in remote wards like Bomorenda.
As the two families prepare to lay their daughters to rest, their pain is compounded by uncertainty and the quest for answers. Neighbors and leaders in Bonchari Constituency have rallied in solidarity, stressing that no effort should be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice. The incident serves as a grim reminder of society’s collective responsibility to protect its most innocent members from those who prey on the vulnerable. Authorities are urged to prioritize this case, keep the public updated on progress, and ensure that two young lives cut short in the most brutal way imaginable receive the justice they deserve.
