Winnie Odinga has made her first visit to the gravesite of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, since his burial in October 2025.
Winnie visited Raila’s gravesite at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, where construction of his mausoleum is currently ongoing.
The visit offered an emotional moment for Winnie, who reflected on the difficulty of confronting the reality of her father’s death several months after his burial.
According to reports, Winnie initially travelled to the site to check on the progress of the mausoleum construction. However, the visit also became an important personal moment as she came face-to-face with the place where Raila was laid to rest.
The construction of Raila’s mausoleum has continued since his burial, with the project expected to become a permanent memorial honouring the veteran opposition leader and former Prime Minister.
Raila died in India in October 2025 after a period of illness and was accorded a state funeral before being buried at his rural home in Bondo.
His death sparked widespread mourning across Kenya and the region, with political leaders, citizens and international figures paying tribute to his decades-long contribution to Kenyan politics and public life.
For Winnie, the visit to her father’s grave marked another step in coming to terms with his loss, while the ongoing mausoleum construction continues to preserve Raila’s legacy for future generations.
