British National Arrested In Connection To The 2012 Murder In Nanyuki

BY ERIC ABUGA

A British National has been arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with the murder of Kenyan national, Agnes Wanjiru, which occurred in 2012.

A statement by the Director of Public Prosecution says the suspect has been remanded in police custody in the United Kingdom and is scheduled to appear before a London court on November 14, 2025 for bail hearing in relation to the extradition request by the DPP.

This will be followed by a case management session on December 9, 2025.

This significant development follows an extensive and coordinated effort between Kenyan and British authorities.

"It comes six weeks after the DPP initiated formal extradition proceedings to ensure accountability in the 13-year-old case," the statement reads.ย

On September 16, 2025, the DPP successfully obtained an arrest warrant from a Nairobi court. Subsequently, on October 9, 2025, the DPP confirmed that all requisite extradition documentation had been formally transmitted to the Office of the Attorney General in Kenya for onward submission to the UK authorities.

Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old mother and freelance hairdresser, disappeared on March 31, 2012 after being last seen at the Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki.ย

Her body was tragically discovered in a septic tank at the same lodge on June 5, 2012, prompting widespread outrage and demands for justice.

"The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) reiterates its unwavering commitment to pursuing justice for Agnes Wanjiru and her family, in collaboration with international partners, to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable."
