England looked set for a famous victory after Anthony Gordon fired them ahead in the 55th minute. However, the defending champions turned the match around in the closing stages as Messi orchestrated the comeback. 

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner set up Enzo Fernández for the equaliser in the 85th minute before delivering another decisive pass in stoppage time for substitute Lautaro Martínez to score the winner in the 90+2 minute, sending Argentina into a second consecutive World Cup final. 

Despite trailing for much of the contest, Argentina dominated the statistics. Lionel Scaloni's side registered 14 shots compared to England's 6, including 6 shots on target against England's 3. Argentina also controlled 64% possession, completed 578 passes to England's 331, and recorded an impressive 93% pass accuracy, underlining their control of the game. 
Argentina also earned six corners to England's one, while England committed 11 fouls compared to Argentina's 15. Argentina received three yellow cards, with England shown one, and neither side had a player sent off. 
Messi's two assists proved decisive as Argentina overturned the deficit in the final minutes, keeping alive their bid to successfully defend the World Cup title. The victory sets up a blockbuster final against Spain, while England will contest the third-place playoff after another heartbreaking semi-final exit.
